Portfolio Manager

Business Development Officer

The Portfolio Manager position is a unique opportunity to launch a long and rewarding career in portfolio management at Crawford Investment Counsel (CIC). At CIC we work to foster a strong corporate environment which places the interest of the client first. We have a collegial group of employees, and all members of the firm are expected to contribute to the overall level of professionalism of the organization. This is a full-time, in-office position directly responsible for managing client relationships, and helping support critical Business Development activities. This position will work closely with the Director of Portfolio Management to learn all aspects of portfolio management. The role will be focused on clients with assets under management in the $1 -$3 million range, with the primary objectives of client retention, asset consolidation, and securing new relationships. The Business Development team is focused on generating and closing business within the various referral network partnerships currently pursued by CIC. As a Portfolio Manager, the individual will be responsible for working closely with the Business Development team to secure new clients. 

The Portfolio Manager will work with the Director of Portfolio Management schedule, draft materials for, and participate in portfolio review meetings with clients. Most of these meetings will occur over the telephone or via Zoom, but those with clients in Atlanta can and will occur in the offices of CIC. It is expected that after 6 months, the Portfolio Manager will demonstrate proficiency in the areas of communicating the effectiveness of the respective CIC strategies in meeting the clients’ goals and discussing the factors unique to each strategy that drive its results. Within 12 months it is expected that the Portfolio Manager will be able to independently conduct client meetings.

 

Job Responsibilities

Initial Job Responsibilities 0-12 months:

Re: Portfolio Management

  • Learn about and fully understand all of CIC’s investment offerings
  • Actively participate in servicing of existing clients
  • Assist Director of Portfolio Management (Tom Buehler) with maintenance of accounts and implementing buy/sell decisions within portfolios
  • Participate in client meetings with Tom Buehler and help him prepare materials for these meetings

Re: Business Development

  • Learn about and fully understand all of CIC’s investment offerings
  • Participate in the referral process, which includes:
    • Acting as a point of contact between CIC and referral sources
    • Receive and log sales leads from the referral networks within Salesforce
  • Support and provide key deliverables within referral process
    • Passively participate in introductory conference calls with prospective clients in capturing key details from the conversation
    • Generate proposals for portfolio managers to deliver to prospective clients
  • Build relationships over the phone with investment representatives in furthering marketing efforts in and out of region

Job Responsibilities long-term, 12+ months and beyond:

Re: Portfolio Management

  • Understand CIC’s investment offerings and to be able to conduct meetings with clients in a one-on-one setting – typically on the telephone or Zoom
  • Similarly, conducting meetings with prospective clients to present CIC investment solutions in a one-on-one setting – typically on the telephone or Zoom
  • Acting as the primary portfolio manager on client relationships
  • Becoming a full Portfolio Manager with a client load of over 100 clients

Re: Business Development

  • Be able to deliver the full message of CIC’s investment offerings and value proposition
  • Lead introductory conference calls with prospective clients in developing a clearer picture of their investment goals and objectives
  • Deliver portfolio recommendation to prospective clients
  • Attend referral network events in furthering relationship development with their representatives

 

Experience and Attributes

  • MBA,CFA, or CFP preferred
  • Three to five years investment management or financial services experience preferred
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook is required
  • Base level understanding of Advent software suite is a plus
  • Be a self-starter and a proactive collaborator with strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills
  • Ability to develop relationships across varied personality types
  • Exceptional and proactive communicator (verbal and written)

 

Compensation:

  • Base salary is based on the experience level of the candidate. Incentive compensation is directly tied to client retention, asset consolidation, and growth of new business
  • In addition to competitive cash compensation, CIC offers 100% employer-paid health care for employee, spouse, and dependents
  • CIC is 100% employee-owned and offers an ESOP as an attractive retirement vehicle along with a 401 (k) plan
  • CIC sponsors employees for all necessary professional designations to be registered with the state of GA and/or the SEC

Billing Specialist

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform data analysis on new accounts and closed accounts to prepare for quarterly billing
  • Perform quarterly billing for all clients
  • Prepare reporting to ensure all clients are billed
  • Maintain operational procedures
  • Ensure proper new client set‐up in the billing system. This will require working closely with the company operations team and client facing professionals
  • Ensure that information changes originating with client‐facing colleagues are properly documented and updated in the billing system
  • Generate and review client fees and quarterly billing statements for accuracy and completeness
  • Post fees to the portfolio accounting system, including those fees generated from third parties and custodial accounts
  • Assist in quarterly revenue analysis
  • Develop and maintain billing performance metrics

Experience & Attributes

  • Bachelor's degree required 
  • One to three years of billing experience, preferably in investment management industry
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel
  • Adept at solving problems by using rigorous logic to understand hidden problems and identify effective solutions without adding complexity
  • Exceptional and proactive communicator (verbal and written)
  • Prioritize work effectively in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Detail oriented with an ability to focus on data accuracy and system integrity
  • Organized, professional, with exceptional time management skills
